Nail-biting and humorous descent into the traumas of the 21st century
Adam Scott-Rowley – creator of the award-winning and critically acclaimed THIS IS NOT CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT now presents: YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.
Performed entirely naked, this show is a nail-biting descent into existential anxiety as humanity stares down the proverbial toilet. A surreal meditation on annihilation that rests on the knife edge between physical theatre and performance art. Ideograms and archetypal forms offer a shared purge illuminating the darkest corners of the human psyche and revealing compassion and humour in the most unlikely of places.
★★★★★ “A physical theatre masterpiece.” (Culture Vulture)
★★★★★ “This is an entirely compelling piece, filled with humanity and compassion. Although it straddles the worlds of theatre and performance art, it is, at its heart entirely down to earth. You are going to die, but so are we all, and once you can accept that with honesty, without fear, you are free to really live.” (British Theatre Guide)
★★★★ “Unapologetic and uncomfortably honest.” (The Stage)
★★★★ “Words don’t even matter… the eyes seem forever desperate for all the characters, perhaps seeking a human connection.” (Shy Strange Manic)
★★★★ “Just incredible performance skills that are second to none.” (Theatre Reviews Design)
“A long night of the soul, complete with highs and lows. Things never get so dark that you can’t see the light at the bottom of the toilet bowl…” (Ought to be Clowns)
“In the realm of visual art, abstraction pulls away from meaning and into pure experience. Lines, shape and colour take the place of figuration, and story gives way to a sensory flow of feeling.” (Lost in Theatre Land)
Adam Scott-Rowleys THIS IS NOT CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT (played at Teater Katapult in 2018) was critically acclaimed as well – here from Ungt Teaterblods review of the performance at Katapult:
★★★★★ “The performance is extremely well-produced, howlingly funny, provocative, heart-wrenching, and frighteningly serious. The acting is wonderful and the technique is on point. I can’t help but be very enthusiastic.” (Ungt Teaterblod)
