Kierkegaards ord for fuld impro-musik!

Please note: English text below!

Søren Kiekergaard under pseudonymet Constantin Constantius i 'Gjentagelsen': "Leve posthornet!

Let engelsk frem for gammelt dansk

For mange vil for eksempel “conversation” nok give mere mening end “praten”.

About the show:

Kierkegaard's words set to improv music

Korny Korner-Kierkegaard: The world-famous, Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard's words are in KIERKEGAARD CONCERT set to improvised music by the unscientific Kierkegaard researcher Claus Damgaard and jazz guitarist Peter Tinning. The show is a fun-filled part of the season's Korny Korner at Teater Katapult in Aarhus. The show is in an easy-to-understand English.

"Søren Kierkegaard's literary work must not be understood - as I understand it! - it must be lived."

- unscientific Kierkegaard researcher, Claus Damgaard

KIERKEGAARD CONCERT September 19th at Teater Katapult is one of the shows that each season gets Katapult's label for the more fun, quirky, and crazy performances. Korny Korner, is what Katapult calls that part of the repertoire. This is a surprising-ly sensuous take on the world-famous Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard - performed with humor by the long-time unscien-tific Kierkegaard researcher Claus Damgaard and the improvising jazz guitarist Peter Tinning.

Søren Kierkegaard is often counted mainly as a philosopher and theologian, but for the unscientific Kierkegaard researcher Claus Damgaard, Kierkegaard is first and foremost an artist - a truly peculiar literary artist who developed his very own form of fiction and lyrical prose, created to be read aloud and inspire the individual to – him- or herself - sensually experiment with what Kierkegaard lets one of his fictional characters describe as “the true Art of Life”.

"Every time I think I can intellectually grasp what Søren Kierkegaard is talking about, his words still overwhelm me."

- Claus Damgaard

Directly emotionally accessible

KIERKEGAARD CONCERT wants to provide a musical and noticeable experience of Søren Kierkegaard's ever current art and wisdom. Claus Damgaard can’t fully understand that he has not done it before:

- It's basically right in front of you! Kierkegaard's language IS music, he says,

To give a clear indication of the rhythm and melody in his language, Kierkegaard used his very own punctuation and numerous times the advice from Kierkegaard is: "Read aloud, if possible!" - so that the essence-bearing musicality and energy of language will become directly emotionally accessible.

"Kierkegaard was much more sensuous than he has a reputation for being - and much more musical than he himself thought he was."

- Claus Damgaard

An international audience

The concert is aimed - also when it is performed in Denmark - at an international and relatively broad audience. The selected Kierkegaard lyrics have therefore been newly translated into easy-to-understand English, where the task has been both to be total-ly loyal to the original content of the lyrics as well as to the melody and rhythm.

For the contemporary Danish-speaker, the new translations will in many cases make Kierkegaard more accessible as well. For many, for example, "conversation" will probably make more sense than the old Danish word "praten". The hope is that all interested parties - including everyone who may not feel they have the prerequisites - will have a clear experience of what Søren Kierkegaard basically wanted with his writing.
